The Weet-Bix Tryathlon is run by the Sanitarium Health Food Company and is all about participation. It's about getting out there, having a go and achieving a personal best.
The event is open to everyone aged between 7 and 15, and consists of a swim, followed by a cycle and a run. There are no place-getters in the Weet-Bix Tryathlon, as the event is non-competitive and designed to encourage participation. Every entrant, both Team members and Individuals, receives a Weet-Bix Tryathlon Race T-shirt, a Medal and a Certificate.
Event entrants can enter as an Individual, which means you swim, bike and run (in that order), or as part of a Team. Teams can be made up of either two or three participants. For a Team of three, each team member will do one leg of the event, so either swim or bike or run; for a Team of two, one of the participants will do two of the three legs (swim, bike, run) and the other the remaining leg. Your choice!
For 7 year olds:
For 8 to 10 year olds:

Each Weet-Bix Tryathlon participant will sign-up for a MyTry account when registering for an event.
MyTry is a personalised log-in area at weetbix.co.nz for each Tryathlete, which enables you to:
Each Tryathlete needs to have their own MyTry account to be able to do all of the above.
Should you have any queries on this, please Contact us.
Registrations for the Weet-Bix Tryathlon take place online. Click here to register now. You can also register by calling our Weet-Bix Tryathlon Customer Services centre if you don't have access to the internet.
The cut-off for all entries is Midday two days before event day, or when the event reaches capacity (whichever is first). For a Sunday event, this is Midday on the Friday before race day (unless the event reaches capacity first). For a Wednesday event, this is Midday on the Monday before race day (unless the event reaches capacity first).
At all events, entries are capped for Health and Safety reasons, so it pays to enter early. Some events do fill up quickly, particularly our St Heliers and Christchurch events. To review how many spaces are still available at each event, please see the relevant event venue page.
Entry fees are payable by credit card.
Direct Credit payments (internet banking) are accepted up until 48 hours before event close-off (or up until an event reaches capacity, whichever is first), however do incur a manual processing fee of $3. If you choose to pay by internet banking, your entry will not be complete until we confirm we have received your payment (we will send you an email at this time). When you register, along with the relevant account details, you will be provided with references to include in your internet banking payment; these will assist us in ensuring your payment is able to be confirmed promptly. Your registration will be forfeited if we do not receive your payment within 48 hours. Please note: We do not accept cheques.
It's important that all entrant details are double-checked, your name especially, as this will appear on your Weet-Bix Tryathlon certificate. Event information will be emailed to you, so please ensure your email address is entered correctly. You should receive an email confirmation of your registration once submitted; if you haven't received this within 24 hours of registering, and this is not in your Junkmail or Spam filters, please contact us. You can review your entry details by logging into MyTry.
If an event entrant has any particular medical requirements, special needs or allergies, you must let us know when you register.
If you unfortunately miss out on registering ahead of the event, provided the event is not full, you can still register on the day. However, you will be charged a late entry fee of $10 and admission to the event will be dependent on the event not being at capacity.

Event information, including start times, will be confirmed for you via email prior to the event, and can also be found on the relevant event venue page.
Weet-Bix Tryathlon entrants can log-in to the MyTry section of the Weet-Bix Tryathlon website, to keep a record of training done. We encourage all Weet-Bix Tryathlon participants to use the Try.Tr@iner programme.
After answering some simple questions to ascertain your general fitness level, you will be given a suitable training schedule, provided by Triathlon NZ to ensure you are up to speed for the event.
It's really important to eat lots of good healthy food (three meals a day and snacks) and drink adequate water while you are training for a Weet-Bix Tryathlon. For more information on nutrition, please click here.
In addition, a couple of days before the event, it's a good idea to ensure you have everything you need by going through our Weet-Bix Tryathlon Event Checklist.
You might like to see what past-participants have had to say about the Weet-Bix Tryathlon here. You can also watch our Weet-Bix Tryathlon Orientation videos to get a better idea of what a Weet-Bix Tryathlon event is like.
The Transition Area is where, during the race, you will head after the swim to collect your bike for the biking section, and where you will leave your bike for the run section. When you first arrive at a Weet-Bix Tryathlon, this is where you will rack your bike in preparation for your race.
As a Weet-Bix Tryathlon participant, you will need to leave the following gear in the Transition Area:
The Transition Area is organised according to swim cap colour. Bikes will need to be lined up with the flag matching your swim cap colour and your additional equipment kept to the side of your bike. For a map of the Transition Area, please see the relevant event venue page.
It's a good idea to make your bike stand out somehow so it will be easier for you to find during your race. You could perhaps use a brightly-coloured towel on your seat or handlebars.
Once your bike and required gear has been placed in the Transition Area prior to the event, except in the course of your race, you will not be able to access your equipment until after Prize-giving has been completed. As the Transition Area is an important area in any Weet-Bix Tryathlon, for Health and Safety reasons we cannot have bikes being removed from the area before this time. The Transition Area constitutes part of the Weet-Bix Tryathlon race course, and as such, anyone other than race participants currently racing is not permitted until Prize-Giving has concluded. Marshals will be unable to make exceptions to this.
You need to ensure that you allow sufficient time to stay on the grounds and collect your gear at the end of Prize-giving. Please listen to our MCs on the day of the event for approximate timing indications. Please note: Due to the nature of the event, all indications given on timing are approximate only.
Please note: Due to the nature of the event, we do not take responsibility for any lost property.
Each Weet-Bix Tryathlon event starts with a short swim. At some event venues, the swim will take place in a pool, while at other venues this takes place in the sea. All ocean swims are conducted parallel to the beach so that participants are never far from land. For more information on your event's swim leg, please see the relevant event venue page.
For all events, the swim takes place in water that is no more than 2 meters deep, and in most cases, is much shallower than this. We have a large number of lifeguards there to look out for all our participants. Some of these lifeguards will stand at the side of the pool or on the shore and some of these lifeguards will be based in the water for the entire event. This is to make sure that we always have a lifeguard at hand for our Tryathletes should they require assistance.
Please ensure that you write your race number in vivid on your arms and legs to help our photographers identify you. Vivids are available on the poles of our Weet-Bix Tryathlon Merchandise tent should you not have one on hand on the day.
Your race pack will contain a swim cap for you to wear for the Weet-Bix Tryathlon. You will start your race in waves based on these colours, and also rack your bike in the Transition Area based on these colours. Click here to check your swim cap colour.
For Health and Safety reasons, we ask that participant's bikes and helmets be safety checked prior to the event. Free Bike and Helmet safety checks can be undertaken at your local Avanti bike store prior to the Weet-Bix Tryathlon. Bikes and helmets without safety approval will not be permitted in the Transition area on race day. Please note that for bikers, wearing shoes is compulsory.
In order to avoid a last minute rush, and to ensure that you have time to complete any necessary repairs for safety reasons, we recommend Tryathletes have their bikes checked between 3 and 6 weeks prior to the event.
The Avanti store checking your bike and helmet for the Weet-Bix Tryathlon will do so according to the Weet-Bix Tryathlon Bike and Helmet Safety Checklist. Click here to see this ahead of getting your bike checked. For a list of stores where you can have your free bike safety check, please click here
For runners, wearing shoes is compulsory.
The run will finish under the Weet-Bix arch, where you will be awarded your medal and congratulated for finishing the Weet-Bix Tryathlon.
Tryathletes can complete the event as either a Team of two, or a Team of three. In a Team of three, each person will do one leg of the event; in a Team of two, one person will do two legs.
Each Team member has their own race number. For team swimmers especially, please write this number on your arm and leg; this will assist our photographers with identifying you.
If you are a Team cyclist or a runner, your race number will be accompanied by a coloured sticker indicating the legs of the event you are completing. If you are doing the cycle only, your sticker will contain a ‘C'. If you are doing the run only, your sticker will contain an ‘R'. If you are doing both the cycle and the run legs, your race number will contain two stickers with both letters.
Team swimmers will start their event at the swim start, and will be directed here by our Race Director when your wave is called. Team cyclists and runners will be tagged by their team members in the Transition Area. You will be directed here when your wave is called and assisted by Marshals in the Transition Area.
All Team members receive a medal. After tagging the Team cyclist or runner, the Team swimmers and cyclists respectively will be directed by our Transition Marshals out of the Transition Area and to run through the Finish Chute to be awarded their medal. Team runners will run through the Finish Chute at the end of their run, and will collect their medal then.
We also offer Group entry into the Weet-Bix Tryathlon. Group entry is designed for Community-based groups, for whom one person is taking charge of entries. The Group section on our website enables one person to print out event consent forms, have these signed off by Participants' guardians and enter the Participant on their behalf. To take a look at our Group section, please click here.
We also have a Schools section on our website. The Schools section enables the nominated Weet-Bix Tryathlon co-ordinator at a school to review who has entered the event from their particular school. This area also enables the Co-ordinator to print off consent forms, have these signed-off by Pupils' guardians and enter the Participant on their behalf should a Pupil be unable to enter themselves.
All schools who enter 25 or more students are eligible to receive a $2 rebate per student. This happens automatically, and is based on the school students' selecting their own school when registering for the Weet-Bix Tryathlon. Please note: Schools only (as defined by the Ministry of Education) are eligible for this rebate.
Once you are at the Event Venue on the day of the Weet-Bix Tryathlon, you will need to come past the Administration and Race pack tent to pick up your race pack. Once you have your race pack (or if you already have had your race pack couriered to you ahead of event day), you will then head to the Transition Area where our Crew members will be on hand to help you rack your bike in the correct area.
When you have racked your bike, and before Race Briefing, ensure you have your race number written on your arms and legs. This will assist our photographers with identifying you in photos they take. You will find vivids on the poles of our Merchandise tent should you not have one on hand on the day. You might also like to quickly check out our Info Board if you have any queries, or the Weet-Bix Breakfast Challenge tent.
Weet-Bix Tryathlon events always start on time. This is especially important in the areas where the swim section is in the sea as we're dependent on tides. It is important all competitors arrive at the event on time.
Please ensure you listen carefully at Race Briefing as all the information you will need to know for the day will be explained at this time. Once the Race Briefing is complete, Race participants will be called in groups, each consisting of a couple of swim cap colours. For more information on when the Administration and Race Pack tent opens, and when the race starts, please take a look at the relevant event venue page.
Please remember, bikes are not available from the Transition Area until after Prize-giving has been completed. Due to the nature of our event, all indications of timing given by our MCs on the day of the event are approximate only. Weet-Bix Tryathlon events generally last for 3-4 hours, so we suggest you pack a picnic, a hat and some sunscreen and take the time to check out our Weet-Bix All Blacks Tryalist Stadium.
Weet-Bix Tryathlons start with the older age group (11-15 years), who have a longer course than the younger age group (7-10 years).
Each swim cap colour will be called so that you have time to walk calmly to the swim start, or to the Team area in Transition, ready to begin your event.
Participants will be called in the following order (Please note: All Participants must have their bikes in the Transition Area before Race Briefing starts; no late arrivals will be permitted to enter the event):
We suggest that Tryathletes ensure they have sufficient to eat and drink throughout the morning of a Weet-Bix Tryathlon event to ensure their energy levels are high when their wave is called.
The Weet-Bix Tryathlon has the support of many sporting personalities, and some of them are often present at our events to give out medals to participants and encourage them to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle. Take a look at what they have to say about the Weet-Bix Tryathlon.
Prize-giving will begin as soon as possible after all event competitors have completed the course.
At Prize-giving, we give away bikes, helmets and Weet-Bix Merchandise packs to lucky event entrants.
Competitors must be on-site to claim any and all prizes they win, so make sure you come prepared to enjoy the day on-site once you complete your event. You must have your official Weet-Bix Tryathlon race number from that event on hand to claim your prize.
Remember, prizes are unable to be claimed after the event, as any unclaimed prizes will be redrawn within the Prize-giving ceremony. Prizes are also unable to be claimed by persons other than the entrant named as the winner.
Bikes can be removed from the Transition Area only once Prize-giving has been completed; please ensure you plan to be on-site for a sufficient length of time. Our MCs will be giving approximate timing indications on the day. Please note: All timing updates are approximate only.
At Weet-Bix Tryathlon, we take as many precautions as we can to ensure we're all SunSmart on the day. Make sure you bring along some sunscreen and a hat. Before you are called to start your race, please ensure you have sufficient sunscreen on. It is also a good idea to ensure you reapply sunscreen after your event, and keep your Weet-Bix Tryathlon Race t-shirt and a hat on.
The generous support of all our Sponsors makes the Weet-Bix Tryathlon possible. Please support our Sponsors where possible.
Please note that Weet-Bix Tryathlon events are not cancelled or postponed due to weather except in extreme circumstances.
Our Race Director may choose to alter the course for safety reasons in the event of wind or rain, however, the event will go ahead. Please make sure you take a look at our Wet Weather Policy before entering a Weet-Bix Tryathlon event.
You can get the latest update for the upcoming event on the Status button on our Weet-Bix Tryathlon homepage, and also via the text update service. Make sure you provide us with your family's current mobile number when you register so we can update you; updates will only be sent out in the event of a modified Weet-Bix Tryathlon course, and will be sent the evening before the event.
Withdrawing from an event is at the Event Manager's discretion, and a refund is not automatically awarded. Before entering an event, please ensure you are familiar with our Refund policy. Due to the administration involved, a $10 Administration fee will be deducted from any refunds awarded.
In some circumstances, you may be able to transfer to a different event within the same series (the same calendar year), that has not yet taken place. Log-in to MyTry to review which events you are able to transfer your entry to. Due to the administration involved, there is a small charge of $3 to transfer to another event.
Safety is the top priority for each and every Weet-Bix Tryathlon event.
For the safety of all competitors, vehicle access during the race will be severely restricted. If you have to leave early, please park well clear of the event course. Please remember: You will not be able to access your equipment in the Transition Area until after Prize-giving has been completed.
Participants and spectators alike must follow race Marshals' instructions. They'll be the ones in the bright red Crew shirts encouraging you and directing you around the course. We ask that all spectators keep well clear of all parts of the Weet-Bix Tryathlon course at all times. This includes the Transition Area, which, once the race starts, will not be open until after Prize-giving has concluded.
For Health and Safety reasons, no child aged under 7 years of age is eligible to enter the event. No exceptions will be made to this.
Please note: The Race Director's decision on all race matters is final.
Should you become separated from members of your family, we will have a 'Meeting Point' tent on the day where our team will take care of any children separated from their parents. Due to the sheer number of children involved with and present at the event, we will unfortunately not be making lost children's announcements over the PA system. We would ask that on the day you bring any children you come across who look lost to this tent.
To make sure you don't need to visit the 'Meeting Point' tent, please organise a meeting place with your family and friends. We also recommend that parents write their mobile number on their child's arm so that, should it be necessary, our crew at the 'Meeting Point' tent can make contact quickly.
Crew members and Marshals at Weet-Bix Tryathlon events are volunteers who have given up their time to ensure our participants' safety.
When you register for a Weet-Bix Tryathlon event, you can opt to receive digital files of the photos our photographers take of you at the event for just $8.
All photos will be available to view approximately 2 weeks after the event. You will receive an email to let you know they're online. To view photos:
If for some reason a bib number is obscured or unreadable, the image will be stored in our ‘unidentified' section, accessible from the same page where you view your photos. If you find your photo here, please enter your bib number and it will be added to your personalised file of images.
Normal photo prices ($16) will apply if you have not opted for the $8 per person special at time of registration for the event. No exceptions will be made. Please note: If you register on the day of an event, you are still eligible to select the discounted Registration offer.
Make sure that the smaller sticker with your race number on it is clearly displayed on the front of your helmet so that you can be easily identified during the cycling leg of the race.
If you have any questions on Event photos, please don't hesitate to contact us.
